The seminar aims at providing an example of the application of corpus-based linguistic analysis in the field of ESP, specifically, through the analysis of online medical communication and terminology related to a specific multidisciplinary field - that is profoundly impacted by societal changes - where terminology is continuously evolving, marked by the introduction of new words, variations, and contentious terms. The case study describes a sample of the online representation of gender identity in online medical communication through a corpus of websites written by experts specifically for families of gender-diverse children. Through the lens of corpus-based research the variation of terminology in this context will be observed, with a particular emphasis on the tools, techniques and research strategies adopted.
