Anna M. Thornton
Anna M. Thornton is Professor of Linguistics at the University of L’Aquila (Italy), where she has held positions in Linguistics since 1992.
She graduated from the University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’ in 1983 and earned an Italian PhD (“Dottorato di Ricerca”) from the University of Pisa in 1989.
Her main research interests lie in the field of morphology: she has published on Italian inflectional and derivational morphology, on prosodic morphology and the morphology / phonology interface, and on gender assignment.
Another field of interest is sexism in language.
Since 2010 she is a visiting member of the Surrey Morphology Group, and she is working in the canonical approach to morphological typology, addressing the phenomenon of overabundance (the existence of two or more forms that realize the same cell in an inflectional paradigm).
