In the second half of the 12th century, Heinrich von Veldeke wrote a German chivalric romance about the Trojan Eneas. It reveals a particular interest in hunting as a sport of the nobility, in war and in fortified castle architecture. The lecture examines the connections between these spheres and also addresses the controversial question of how exactly Heinrich von Veldeke was actually informed about current developments in high medieval siege warfare.
